Postal Service Might Be Closing 2,000 Post Offices - 200 Word Response

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2011/01/24/postal-service-eyes-closing-thousands-post-offices/

The post office is going to lobby the Congress the change the law. As of now post offices can only be closes for maintenance, lease expiration, or other non-profitable reasons. Now the they want to be able to close the most unprofitable post office's. The idea is very controversial. The post office is an important part of most rural town were this is the only way to be connected to the outside world. Also elderly who have trouble going very far from home would have to travel longer distances to the post office. The postal service has 32,000 post offices nation wide.

I think closing the extremely unprofitable post offices is a good idea. A company cannot run in the red and expect to do well. It needs to cut off some it's flagging post offices. Part of the reason that post offices aren't doing well is because most things are done over the internet. One of the arguments is that you can't close down post offices because they connect the rural towns to the rest of the world. It is most likely the failing post offices are not part of those rural towns but in the large cities were the post offices isn't needed as much. If the post offices is the only thing connecting to the world that it would make sense that it gets lost of use.
